S/MIME

I've received a mail signed with S/MIME attachment
(application/x-pkcs7-signature).

I don't know nothing about S/MIME, can someone give some useful hints
on how I can find some informations? (URL, etc...)

I know that this signature can be verified by netscape, but there is
any program that can do the same thing (like GnuPG)?
