Accessing GnuPG from Python

I'm looking to access GnuPG from Python.  I need access to a lot of the
functionality provided in the CLI, and it ain't enough to use the
'--passphrase-fd' option.  The option that seems doable is to provide a
GnuPG API, using Python C Extensions.

I'll admit I'm not the greatest C programmer, so I'd appreciate any
comments and thoughts regarding if this is the best approach, and any tips
you can spare.
