compression info & "--verbose"

when processing a message, why doesn't "--verbose" display information
about the compression algorithm and level?

the information about the algorithm (but not the level) seems to only be
available if verbose is specified twice, which turns on the "historical
feature" of "--list-packets" sending info to STDOUT instead of STDERR.
