Probably SunOS 4.1.1.  However, doing a custom popen() allows taking care of a
few other things as well, which is why it's still in there.

Having said that, there are some awfully old copies of the cryptlib entropy-
polling code floating around, moving to a current version would be a good
idea.

Oh, and if people make changes, letting me know so I can merge them into the
upstream version would be good.
