encrypt with GPG 1.0.4 decrypt with ViaCrypt 4.0 problem

hi,
A client is attempting to decrypt a message with ViaCrypt 4.0 that we
encrypt
with GPG 1.0.4 using the key they sent us..

they get the following message:

Unsupported packet format - you need a newer version of PGP for this file. 
Problem with pgp-fmt data from armored file.
Cannot process input from:  datadump.pgp
Error code =  8

could this have to do with the single/double function key problem described
by ViaCrypt on
alt.security.pgp newsgroup:

are  there any other issues that you are aware of?
