Look a few lines down for the line reading:

checking for ldap_init in -lldap...

If this isn't "yes", then the configure wanted LDAP support, but you
didn't have the LDAP libraries installed so it didn't built the LDAP
stuff.

Yes, the 1.2 configure messages are a little more clear: "checking
whether LDAP via "(path)" is present and sane" :)
