Evolution signatures

Does anyone know why Ximian Evolution refuses to do inline signatures
and will only do the mime style attachment signatures?  They told me
they stopped doing the inlines because it was impossibly to reliably
verify the signature!?

I can neither sign nor verify inline signatures in evolution...
