you might have them both installed, in different places.
rebuild the "locate" database *, and run:
$ locate gpg | egrep 'bin'
i suspect you'll find two copies. run them each like this:
$ /full/path/to/gpg --version
* you can also `find` gpg by doing this:
$ find / -type f -name gpg 2> /dev/null | egrep 'bin'
...atom
