gpg does not care about the charset for passphrases and thus if you
have non-ascii in your passpharse and switch the charset of your
terminal this will lead to problems. Workaround is to use the old
terminal setting and change the passpharse using only ascii. You may
the later change it again using the new charset.
Not sure how this maps to KDE.
