Works fine here:

./configure --prefix=/home/marcus/pinentry
make install

Note that if you want to change the prefix at installation time, you
should use DESTDIR:

make install DESTDIR=`pwd`/build-a-binary-package

To build from the repository, you have to use the
"--enable-maintainer-mode" option to configure.
