Please try this

  $ gpg-connect-agent
  SCD serialno

does it return something?  Next test is to

  $ pkill scdaemon
  $ pkill scdaemon
  $ scdaemon --server --debug-ccid-driver --debug 2048
  serialno

You should get a lot of debugging output.  Note that if you are suing
"log-file" in scdaemon.conf, this will be redirected to that file (or
socket).
