I fixed it by disabling gnome-keyring at system level. The following
works under Jessie:

echo "X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false" >>
/etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop
echo "X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false" >>
/etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-gpg.desktop

NB this will affect all users.
