gpgsm --gen-key with key on smartcard

what do you think about Peter's idea:

$ gpg --with-keygrip --card-status


to show key ID -> keygrip mapping?

Or is that not easily possible protocol wise?
(I have zero knowledge about the keygrip stuff)
