FWIW, I'm -1 on adding a new build system.  We will not solve any portability problem by switching build system.  Please work on making `./configure;make` work everywhere instead, as far as I know it is possible to make things work under Windows if you make an effort (which appears much smaller than creating and maintaining another build system).
