[gnutls-help] what exactly is gnutls 3.2.13 and 3.3.1 looking for in libgmp ??

Why did you add an underscore? configure uses LDFLAGS.

I don't think that would help in that case. Check ./configure --help for
the flags you could specify to ease discovery.
