default keys in gpa

Gpa currently has its own notion of default key which is not the same as
the one of gpg. As it si, gpa's default key can only be set through the
options menu. On startup, that key is NULL.
Now, I'd like to be able to find out which key gpg would have used by
default, so the default key has a useful initial value. A simple first
approximation would seem to be the key returned by
gpapa_get_secret_key_by_index for index 0 if there is at least one
secret key. Is that a safe assumption? Is there perhaps another way to
get gpg's default key through gpapa?
