I can't find a related configure switch.
However gnupg seems to know about an "agent":
michael@linux:~> gpg --help | grep agent
--use-agent den GPG-Agent verwenden
michael@linux:~> gpg --use-agent
gpg: Warnung: Sensible Daten könnten auf Platte ausgelagert werden.
gpg: siehe http://www.gnupg.org/de/faq.html für weitere Informationen
gpg: Auf geht's - Botschaft eintippen ...
gpg: Interrupt caught ... exiting

Doesn't help either.
Just tells me:
GPG_AGENT_INFO=/tmp/gpg-IibLMF/S.gpg-agent:566:1; export GPG_AGENT_INFO;
Really exporting this environment variable also doesn't help.
