Isn't it then a small step to ultimately drop the 1.x branch,... and
suggest people that don't like the dependencies to just compile gpg2
statically?
Perhaps allowing to drop the need for gpg-agent or so.

Are there any major platforms left where gpg builds, but gpg2 not?
