"Go with" the 1.4.x Branch and ignore the 2.0.x Trunk until You've
acquired more experience.  1.4.x is smaller, faster and easier to find
compatible distributions with.

The x.509 capabilities of the 2.0.x Trunk aren't used all that much so
You won't 'miss' 'em.  Later, You can always install 2.0.x and run it
side-by-side with 1.4.x should You desire.
