The configure option is defined using `lib-link.m4` in the [havelib](https://git.savannah.gnu.org/gitweb/?p=gnulib.git;a=blob_plain;f=modules/havelib) Gnulib module, which doesn't allow separate includedir/libdir. Perhaps it might make sense to report it to the Gnulib mailing list.

On the other hand, some distributions ship a pkgconfig file (`libev.pc`), so perhaps we could take advantage of it (then you would be specify separate CFLAGS/LIBS through envvars).
